Former Qantas Boss Skips Senate Aviation Inquiry

The former head of Qantas Alan Joyce will skip the upcoming Senate aviation inquiry which will look into landing rights.

Joyce will be overseas and has declined the opportunity to attend the inquiry via weblink.

The inquiry will be closely examining the federal government’s decision to turn down extra flights from Qatar Airways.

Joyce’s absence has been officially confirmed by chair of the inquiry commission Senator Bridget McKenzie.

Lawyers for the former Qantas boss claimed Joyce would not attend Wednesday’s inquiry due to personal obligations.

Joyce was asked to attend the meeting to account for Qantas airline’s part in the expansion of Qatar Airways across Australia.

The decision to deny more Qatar flights into the country was met with significant backlash from the travel industry along opposition politicians, airports and airlines across the country.

Joyce is still expected to be summoned for the inquiry upon his return to Australia.
