The cast behind our beloved home-grown kids’ show Bluey have reacted to the fact that some episodes have been censored in the US.
Numerous episodes have been banned after being dubbed as not suitable for younger audiences.
The Briefing unpacks Bluey US censorship in their headlines:
The reasons had some people scratching their heads, one of them was because some scenes involve “bodily functions”.
Some episodes aren’t being aired because they involve vomiting, “passing gas”, or discussions around pregnancy.
Melanie Zanetti who voices Bluey’s mum Chilli has said she finds the censoring wild. She wrote, “The amount of things that are acceptable in America but a fart focused episode was not?!”
Some episodes banned or censored in the US include:
S2 E13: “Dad Baby”
This episode explores pregnancy and carrying babies. It was banned from the US and doesn’t exist on Disney+. Bluey, his dad and sister are playing in a paddling pool and they mimic giving birth. In a later episode called “Daddy Putdown”, Bingo asks her dad how babies are made in bellies. The line was cut in the US version.
S1 E25 Episode: “Taxi”
The episode ends in the US with Bandit boarding an imaginary airplane, and he realises his reckless cab driver is also the pilot. Bingo’s character pretends to throw up on Bandit’s lap. The US version has no vomit.
S3 E23: “Family Meeting”
“Family Meeting” was briefly banned, believed to be because of the number of references to passing gas. However, the decision was reversed following an outcry that highlighted it as one of Bluey‘s funniest episodes. Viewers also called out hypocrisy as The Lion King’s Pumbaa notably passes gas throughout the film.
S3 E40: “Relax”
In the opening moments of “Relax”, Vandit calls the kids “Dingle Berries”. In the US version, Bandit calls them “Super Troopers”.
