Total fire bans have been issued in eight of the state’s regions, while extreme and high fire danger has been forecast across NSW.

These regions include Greater Sydney, Greater Hunter, Far South Coast, Northern Slopes, North Western, Upper Central West Plains, Lower Central West Plains and Central ranges.

New South Wales’ situation comes as the Bureau of Meteorology confirmed the state recorded its second hottest and driest September on record.

Victoria and South Australia also recorded their second-warmest September, with Western Australia experiencing its warmest of all-time.

Last month, NSW recorded five consecutive days of temperatures passing 30 degrees, beating the previous record of three days.
