Eight Australians Hospitalised After London-Singapore Flight Hit Fatal Turbulence

Eight Australians have been hospitalised after a Singapore Airlines flight was forced to make an emergency landing in Bangkok due to hitting turbulence.

The Australian Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT) said the Australian Embassy in Bangkok was continuing its inquiries to see if any other of the 56 Australians on board were affected.

A 73-year-old British man died on the London to Singapore flight while dozens were left injured, with an additional 10 passengers also hospitalised.

It’s believed the British man suffered from a heart attack.

A further 23 passengers and one crew member sustained less injuries.

The Boeing 777-300ER flight had 211 passengers and 18 crew on board and was headed for Singapore before diverting at 3:45pm local time when it fell into an air pocket.

Suvarnabhumi Airport general manager Kittipong Kittikachorn said in a press conference cabin crew were serving breakfast when the flight hit turbulence.

He added head injuries were sustained among several passengers who bounced into the air, hitting their heads on the roof and overhead luggage storage.
