Sydney Airport is in turmoil this morning with dozens of flights cancelled as powerful wind shakes New South Wales’ east.
Before 7.30am, 39 domestic flights had been cancelled impacting airlines including Qantas and Jetstar.
At the time of publishing, more than 50 inbound and more than 40 outbounds flights had been cancelled throughout the day.
Wind gusts of up to 90km/h are forecast to hit parts of coastal NSW, as the airport continues to monitor conditions.
A spokesperson for Airservices Australia said it is likely to enact single runway operations at Sydney Airport later this morning due to the strong crosswinds.
“This decision is purely weather and safety-related to safeguard the travelling public,” they said in a statement.
The delays are expected to be felt across the day.
Travellers are advised to contact their airlines to see how the delays may affect them.
“A number of airlines have decided to consolidate services,” a Sydney Airport spokesperson said.
“Passengers who are travelling today are advised to get in touch with their airline to check the status of their flights.”
Alternatively, passengers can visit the Sydney Airport website for details on flights affected.
