Disgraced former New South Wales detective and convicted murderer Roger Rogerson has died, aged 83.
The former police officer was taken to Prince of Wales Hospital in Randwick on Thursday night after suffering a brain aneurysm in his Long Bay prison cell.
On Friday morning, Rogerson’s life support was turned off, and he died on Sunday night around 11pm.
Rogerson was serving a life sentence for murdering 20-year-old student and drug dealer, Jamie Gao in 2014.
He and former corrupt cop Glen McNamara were found to have lured Gao into a Padstow storage unit before shooting him twice.
The pair had planned to sell Gao’s methamphetamine, worth $18 million, however just days after his murder, his body washed up onshore.
Rogerson began his police career in 1958, at just 17-years-old.
He was regarded as one of the most decorated New South Wales office, with many considering him a potential candidate for police commissioner before corruption allegation and links to organised crimes were discovered.
