Coroner To Begin Pre-Conference Inquiry Into Wieambilla Shooting

A coroner is set to detail the issues to be brought forward in an official inquest into the shooting deaths of two police officers and four others in Wieambilla, Queensland last year. 

In a pre-inquest conference, State Coroner Terry Ryan is set to today reveal what findings will need to be established prior to the inquest hearings scheduled for later this year. 

Four officers including 26-year-old Matthew Joseph Arnold and 29-year-old Rachel Clare McCrow attended the rural Queensland property on December 12 to conduct a welfare check.

Upon arriving at the property, all four officers were allegedly fired upon with constables Arnold and McCrow shot and killed. 

According to Queensland Police Union president Ian Leavers, the two constables were allegedly shot at close range in a “ruthless and calculated” execution. 

Another female officer managed to take cover in bushland while a male officer escaped in a police car.

The three alleged shooters, 47-year-old Gareth Daniel Train, 46-year-old Nathaniel Charles Train and 45-year-old Stacey Jane Train are also alleged to have shot and killed their 58-year-old neighbour Alan Thomas Dare. 

The three suspects were later shot and killed by responding officers around six hours later.
