Charges dropped against three in relation to Liam Payne’s death

Three people have been acquitted in relation to the death of One Direction member Liam Payne in Argentina.

The ruling by Argentina’s federal court drops charges against Argentine businessman Rogelio Nores, CasaSur Hotel manager Gilda Martin, and the hotel’s main receptionist Esteban Grassi.

“Glad this is finally over”, Nores told Rolling Stone.

“I’m happy I’m now going to be able to travel to the U.K. and say goodbye to my friend.”

Mr Nores’ duty of care was argued by prosecutors, but ultimately the court sided with the defence.

They contended that Mr Nores had no legal, moral or social duty to care for the singer.

The 31-year-old fell to his death from the CasaSur Hotel balcony in Buenos Aires last October where he was staying at the time.

Five people were initially charged with criminal negligence, which carries a jail term of one to five years in prison in Argentina.

The death sparked a global outpouring of grief for Payne’s death, particularly for those within the One Direction fan base.

The two remaining defendants have been ordered to remain in custody. They are facing prosecution on charges that they supplied the singer with narcotics right before his death.

A toxicology report revealed that Liam Payne had alcohol, cocaine and a prescription antidepressant within his system at the time of his death.
