Queenstown airport in New Zealand has been evacuated on Friday morning after the airport initiated its emergency security response following a bomb threat.
New Zealand police confirmed they are responding to a bomb threat which is now under investigation by Aviation Security and police teams.
According to police, they received reports of a possible “explosive device” at around 8:40AM on Friday morning.
“NZDF Explosive Ordnance Disposal unit has been notified and will respond,” a police spokesperson told 9NEWS.
Police are urging people in the area to avoid the airport as the issue is investigated.
All inbound flights have since been diverted with passengers both inbound and outbound told to wait for confirmation to return for their flights.
“All passengers due to depart Queenstown today, and those expecting to meet incoming flights, are asked not to come to the airport until advised otherwise,” the airport said in a statement.
