The Australian woman who went missing in the Canadian wilderness has been found dead days after failing to return home over the weekend.
A large-scale search was established for Queenslander Julia-Mary Lane after she went missing while hiking on Bear Lake Trail in British Columbia.
Ms Lane’s roommate contacted emergency services after she failed to return home.
Police found the Brisbane woman’s Ford Escape SUV near Bear Lake.
Police, drones, dogs and rescue teams were deployed in an effort to locate the missing hiker with the search ending in tragedy.
Ms Lane’s family confirmed that the 24-year-old had died in an “unfortunate hiking accident”.
Lane’s Canadian housemate Janet Hamilton paid tribute to her friend on social media.
“Thank you everyone in this wonderful community for all your help and support over the past two days in the search for Julia-Mary,” Ms Hamilton said.
“I feel honoured to have spent time with her this past week, as she was a joy to be around.”
Ms Lane’s official cause of death is yet to be released to the public.
