Beef, The Bear, And Succession Shine In Delayed 2023 Emmy Awards

The 2023 Emmy Awards witnessed a triumphant sweep by Beef, The Bear, and the final season of Succession. 

Jesse Armstrong’s Succession claimed six outstanding awards, including Best Drama Series and accolades for standout performances by Kieran Culkin, Sarah Snook, and Matthew Macfadyen.

“The Bear” also emerged as a breakout success, clinching six awards, with lead actor Jeremy Allen White at the forefront. 

Ayo Edebiri and Ebon Moss-Bachrach also secured supporting awards, marking a historic moment as Black women, including Quinta Brunson of Abbott Elementary, triumphed in both categories.

Netflix’s breakout show Beef dominated the anthology series, taking home five awards, with Steven Yeun and Ali Wong making history as Wong became the first woman of Asian descent to win a lead acting Emmy.

Jennifer Coolidge secured her second Emmy for Best Supporting Actress in a Drama for her role in the second season of HBO’s The White Lotus, following her win for the first season.

Despite the delay due to strikes, the ceremony showcased impactful moments, including Niecy Nash-Betts dedicating her award to unheard Black and brown women. 

RuPaul emphasised the importance of knowledge and resistance to restricting access to power.

Glaad, a non-profit LGBTQ+ advocacy organisation, received a special governor’s award for its role in ensuring accurate representation of queer and trans characters in the media.
