The Australian start-up business HEO is bringing CCTV to space – and it’s caught the attention of Elon Musk.
The world-first technology used by HEO works at phenomenal speeds; doing everything from checking on the health of a satellite to de-escalating world conflicts thanks to its use in counterespionage.
HEO has contracts with Elon Musk’s SpaceX, which has become one of the company’s best clients.
On today’s episode of The Briefing, Tom Tilley finds out from Dr William Crowe, the Sydney-based founder of HEO, what’s going on above our heads.
Dr Crowe says HEO has deployed 37 cameras into space so far and hopes to see that number double very soon.
The cameras are able to examine what satellites in space are carrying helping to prevent the potential of future conflict.
“I think one of the biggest things that we can do using this technology is have a look at satellites, see what they’re carrying.
“And really having that kind of transparency or a level of transparency doing that to really de-escalate conflict in the world.
“I think a lot of people are concerned about weapons in space or a bunch of treaties saying we shouldn’t have weapons in space, but being able to go and see that and verify that I think that’s a whole big part of what we do.”
