Alleged Vandalism Causes Chaos On Sydney Trains Following Matildas Semi-Final Loss

Two men, aged 47 and 33, were questioned by police Thursday morning and have been assisting with enquires.

Tens of thousands of people were left waiting on platforms, mainly at Sydney Olympic Park where both soccer fans and those who attended country singer’s Luke Combs’ concert at Qudos Arena were left without a way home.

Passengers were made aware of the issue via social media and announcements at affected railway stations. City-inbound services on the T1, T2, T7, T8, and T9 lines suffered the most delays.

“Sydney trains letting in the goals as well! Thousands of people trying to get home and they are having technical difficulties! LOL why am I not surprised!” one user on X, formally known as Twitter, said.

“Sydney Trains announcers at Olympic Park need more training. Read the room. People just need regular updates and info. No jokes or cheers. Don’t make it about you. Confusing and frustrating when everyone tired and just wants to get home,” another wrote.

It’s understood despite delays of up to an hour, the network is running back on time.
