Germany is set to purchase 100 Australian-built military vehicles in a billion-dollar defence deal.
Prime Minister Anthony Albanese has announced one of the largest defence deals in Australian history after arriving in Berlin ahead of NATO talks.
Germany is expected to receive over 100 Boxer heavy weapon carrier vehicles which are to be built in Brisbane.
All of the vehicles will be developed at a Redbank facility and is likely to produce around 1,000 jobs.
Prime Minister Anthony Albanese said the massive military defence deal will “boost our economy”.
“This will be one of our largest-ever exports,” he said.
“We’ll guarantee that the 1,000 jobs that are there in Queensland will go into the future and will be worth in excess of $1 billion for the Australian economy.
“This will boost our sovereignty. This will increase our sovereignty. This will increase our defence capability and boost our economy.
“This is a great outcome and it’s the first outcome of quite a few that we have ready to announce tomorrow with our friends here in Germany.”
The $1 billion deal is set to begin in 2025 with the official signing scheduled for July 11.
