The Australian Federal Police has launched a global appeal in efforts to locate one of the country’s most wanted fugitives.
It’s believed James Dalamangas fled to Greece in 1999 after stabbing father of two George Giannopoulos to death.
Giannopoulos was at a night club in Sydney’s southwest on April 25, 1999, when he was stabbed twice after trying to break up a fight between two patrons.
A warrant for Dalamangas’ arrest was issued the next day, however he was never located.
The AFP has released an age progressed image of what they believe Dalamangas would look like today, who would now be 53 years old.
“A warrant was issued for Mr Dalamangas’ arrest; however, despite extensive inquiries, he has never been located,” police said in a statement.
“After attempts to extradite Mr Dalamangas from Greece were not successful in 2003, Greek authorities agreed to commence the prosecution of Mr Dalamangas over his alleged role in the murder.
“That process was suspended in 2007 when he could not be located.”
In addition to Giannopoulos’ death, Dalamangas is wanted for questioning over the 1997 shooting and death of Kings Cross bouncer Tim Voukelates.
He was also involved in a fight at Star City Casino in 1998 where his brother, Peter, was killed.
Police will address the media and also deliver the message in Greek, re-appealing for anyone with information about Dalamangas’ whereabouts.
