Queensland Police have charged a 52-year-old Gatton man in relation to the death of a 76-year-old man following a home invasion last month.
The incident, which occurred on April 25 at a residence on Hood Street, saw the older man subjected to a vicious assault allegedly perpetrated by the accused.
Investigators believe the two men were known to each other as acquaintances.
“The man was located by emergency services with serious injuries and was transported to Toowoomba Hospital,” police said in a statement.
However, his condition deteriorated, and he passed away at the hospital on May 5.
Following extensive investigations, the 52-year-old has been charged with a series of offences, including entering dwelling with intent by break at night, deprivation of liberty, acts intended to cause grievous bodily harm, and wilful damage.
The accused was denied police bail and is scheduled to appear before the Toowoomba Magistrates Court today.
