Operation Whiskey Legion has seen 40 additional officers deployed to Mount Isa, amid what the mayor calls a reported crime epidemic.
The operation is being carried out from August 26 to September 4. Police have since made arrests for offences related to dangerous driving, drugs, theft, possession of weapons and more.

Mount Isa Mayor Peter McCray is calling for a correctional facility to be built locally.
Operation Whiskey Legion sees specialist police from the Highway Patrol, Crime and Intelligence Command, Dog Squad, and Crime Prevention join forces with local police.
Officers have conducted 251 engagements and business checks, including 31 patrols of designated hotspots.
Mount Isa District Officer Superintendent Tom Armitt said this deployment of will have a domestic violence and property crime focus.
“You can expect to see a high visibility police presence with plans to saturate the entire district in the coming days,” Armitt said.
“This operation has been tailor made to suit the specific needs of our district.”
Assistant Commissioner Brian Connors Connors said Operation Whiskey Legion has seen great results in previous deployments. Results have been gathered from Logan, Ipswich, Gold Coast, Moreton, Mackay, Brisbane, and Wide Bay.
Since Operation Whiskey Legion began in April, a total of 3,186 people have been arrested on 8,144 charges.
