US President Joe Biden and wannabe second term president Donald Trump faced off in the first presidential debate earlier today.
Editor-in-chief of Raw Story Dave Levinthal said what stood out for many Americans, regardless of their political persuasions, was the performance of the president of the United States.
Dave Levinthal, editor-in-chief of Raw Story unpacks the major moments from the debate on The Briefing:
“The current president of the United States, Joe Biden, by any measure, he had a disastrous performance,” Levinthal said.
“It would have been a really bad night for Donald Trump, but for Joe Biden. Donald Trump lied his way through this debate. He misled taxation policy. He had some strange, strange answers about abortion that are likely to rile some in his Republican party,” he said.
Meanwhile, a big focus for criticism and commentary in this election has been Biden’s age and health. Major topics in the debate included abortion, immigration, border control, nuclear war and more.
“But Joe Biden at times just simply couldn’t even articulate anything at all. He couldn’t answer questions. He froze. He mumbled his words.”
