Australian superstar John Farnham is still breaking records into his 70s. The documentary Finding the Voice has now taken over $4 million at the Australian box office.
But back in the 1970s, Farnham was already breaking ground. He had one of the first high-profile Australian celebrity weddings when he married his wife Jill in April 1973. Molly Meldrum, who was working as a journalist at the time, printed the wedding invitation in Go Set magazine.
That gave all the details to Farnham fans, who flocked to the church in the Melbourne suburb of Glenroy. “It was quite crazy,” the You’re the Voice hitmaker says in Behind the Hits: John Farnham. “There were about 3500 kids at the church, Jillian’s dress got torn. Someone nearly got killed with the helicopter – to get away from the press we had to get a helicopter out.” For the full story listen to Behind the Hits: John Farnham below.
