Green Day Sydney Review: A Legendary Night of Dookie & American Idiot

Green Day took over ENGIE Stadium in Sydney last night, delivering an electrifying performance to a packed crowd. Spanning multiple generations of fans, the audience came ready to experience two iconic albums—1994’s Dookie and 2004’s American Idiot—played in full for their Saviors Tour.

Green Day’s Energy Still Unmatched

Billie Joe Armstrong proved once again why he’s one of the most engaging frontmen in rock history. With his youthful energy, cheeky expressions, and dramatic pauses, he kept the crowd hooked from start to finish. Meanwhile, Mike Dirnt (bass) and Tré Cool (drums) were locked in, delivering that classic Green Day sound with power and precision.

A Setlist Packed with Nostalgia

The show was joyfully loud, with the energy building as Green Day ripped through Dookie favorites like ‘Welcome to Paradise’ and ‘When I Come Around’. Fans were also treated to the sight of a Bad Year blimp floating through the crowd, adding to the spectacle.

Special Moments: Fan Interaction & AC/DC Tribute

Between the Dookie and American Idiot sets, the band brought an ecstatic fan onstage to sing ‘Know Your Enemy’, a moment that sent the crowd into a frenzy. Another highlight came during ‘Brain Stew’, when the band teased the intro to AC/DC’s ‘Highway to Hell’, paying homage to the Aussie legends.

American Idiot Sends the Crowd Wild

As the band launched into American Idiot, the crowd erupted with excitement. A standout moment was the epic nine-minute rendition of ‘Jesus of Suburbia’, a true masterpiece that had the entire stadium singing along. And, in classic Green Day fashion, Billie Joe took a few playful jabs at the current state of American politics, keeping the show as rebellious as ever.

The Perfect Closing: ‘Good Riddance (Time of Your Life)’

After an incredible 37-track setlist, Green Day closed the night with their timeless acoustic anthem, ‘Good Riddance (Time of Your Life)’. It was the perfect ending to a show packed with high-energy punk rock, nostalgia, and fan-favorite moments.

Special Shoutout to the Support Acts

A special mention to the support acts who set the tone for the night:

  • Private Function – Beyond entertaining and absolute cult favorites.
  • AFI – A perfect choice to hype up the crowd with their dark, energetic sound.

A Night to Remember

With Kylie Minogue playing next door, the post-show commute was a long race home on a school night—but the high-energy vibes made it all worthwhile. This was truly a night that didn’t disappoint.
