Perth woke to the news that many of the pilot whales stranded at Cheynes beach, Albany, have sadly died.
Pete, Matt and Kymba spoke with Channel 7’s Syan Vallance about the unfolding drama to our south and documented the brave efforts of locals to try and save as many of the whales as they could.

Not only does Syan give an update on what’s happening with the Pilot whales, she also detailed the risks that rescuers are facing.
“There are people out there in the water now and it’s very specialised,
“It’s also dangerous… There are a few hazards around, earthmoving equipment, and there is a shark risk because there has been shark attacks at this beach before,
“A couple of the whales are injured, bleeding, so there is a risk element to this operation as well.”
