In a shocking Secret Lives of Sydney, a mother reveals she’s faking a terminal illness to keep her son on the straight and narrow.

The listener tells Hughesy, Ed and Erin that when her son was 16 he was an absolute nightmare for her.

“He was smoking, drinking, acting up,” she says.

“I didn’t know what to do.”

“No one could control him.”

With no one to turn to, and out of options to keep her son from continuing down his reckless path, she told him she didn’t have long to live.

The listener reveals she even uses her friend to write fake medical reports to back up her illness.

The mother then reveals that two years later, her son is now 18 and his life has turned around.

“He is just such a different boy.”

“He’s got a job and he has stopped all his bad habits.”

She tells Hughesy, Ed and Erin her son has never questioned her about what sickness she has.

When asked if she felt guilty about lying to her son about dying, she says she had to do it.

“I didn’t want to find my son lying dead in the gutter somewhere.”
