Prime Minister Anthony Albanese has broken down exactly what the upcoming Referendum will mean for Australians.
“We are the only country in the world that’s a former Colony that does not acknowledge our First Peoples in our founding document.” The PM said.
The Proposed Law: to alter the Constitution to recognise the First Peoples of Australia by establishing an Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Voice.
“There is nothing to fear,” Albanese said.
“It doesn’t change our democratic structures, it’s a really gracious request frankly it’s a really modest request from Indigenous Australians.”
The PM has compared the campaign to the 2017 Same Sex Marriage Act that gave a “minority” of the population a voice and right.
He believes this is a hand out from Indigenous Australians and we need to “shake hands.”
“The big thing is if you don’t know, get informed.”
The Referendum voting day is Saturday 14 October 2023.
