In a two-part episode of It’s A lot with Abbie Chatfield, Abbie speaks to Nat Murphy, a former member of The Geelong Revival Center.
Nat speaks to Abbie about being kicked out of the Church for being gay and to shine a light on the brutality she endured while being a member.
“I can only speak for myself. I can remember we were hit, punished, isolated and sometimes you’d have to pick the weapon you were hit with”.
The Geelong Revival Centre is a Pentecostal Church led by Pastor Hollins. The Church has affiliated assemblies around the world and draws on the racists doctrine of the “British Israel” movement as well as doomsday predictions.
The church encourages the use of physical punishment as a form of discipline and oppresses women and girls. Speaking on the beliefs held by the Church on the role of women in society,
“Women can’t be educated, they don’t go to University, we are breeders, we stay home we have babies. Men control it and women are just these pawns that get moved around”. Nat shared.
