Darren Hayes joins Jess on The Big Talk Show, sharing his journey from childhood trauma to international fame, as both the lead singer of Savage Garden, and as a solo artist.
Darren discusses his experience of domestic violence, his struggle with his sexuality, and the importance of self-love and healing. He reflects on the support he received from icons like Elton John and where he finds joy.
“I can finally talk about this now.”
At the height Savage Garden’s success the duo decided to split up. It was well reported at the time that the breakup was messy and complicated, Darren Hayes opened up to Jess about the real reason behind the split.
“Daniel quit the band a week before our second album was released. I don’t know why I was afraid to ever really say that I, you know, I covered for him for a long time.”
“Daniel was unhappy with being a public person and we had our second number one. We had a year of sold out arena dates booked. ‘I Knew I Loved You’ was just about to hit number one in the US again, it was number one in Australia. We were on fire.” Darren Continued.
Listen to the moment Darren Hayes knew Savage Garden was over.
