How The World Has Reacted To OJ Simpson’s Death

The world is responding to the death of OJ Simpon, who lost his battle against prostate cancer on April 10, aged 76.

His family confirmed the news in a statement posted to Simpson’s X account, saying he was surrounded by his family at the time of his passing.

In 1995, Simpson was acquitted in what US media described as the “trial of the century” over the murders of his former wife, Nicole Brown Simpson, and friend, Ron Goldman.

The former NFL player was then found responsible for the deaths in a civil lawsuit and was later imprisoned for a seperate armed robbery and kidnapping case.

How the world has responded

Fred Goldman, the father of Ron, said Simpson’s death was “no great loss”.

“The only thing I have to say is it’s just further reminder of Ron being gone all these years,” he told NBC news.

“It’s no great loss to the world. It’s a further reminder of Ron’s being gone.”

Gloria Allred, who represented Ms Brown Simpson’s family, told TMZ Simpson’s death is a reminder of how the justice system has failed women in abusive relationships.

“Simpson’s death reminds us that the legal system even 30 years later is still failing battered women, and that the power of celebrity men to avoid true justice for the harm that they inflict on their wives or significant others is still a major obstacle to the right of women to be free of the gender violence to which they are still subjected,” she said.

Caitlyn Jenner, whose ex-wife Kris Kardashian was best friends with Mr Goldman and previously married to Simpson’s late dfence lawyer Robert Kardashian, did not hold back on sharing her thoughts.

“Good Riddance #OJSimpson,” she said on X.

Former NBA player Earvin “Magic” Johnson shared his condolences to Simpson’s children and grandchildren.

Former feminist and LGBTQI+ activist Charlotte Clymer described Simpson’s trial as a “pivotal moment in the decline of American broadcast news”.

In a later post, Ms Clymer recounted watching the Bronco chase as a seven-year-old.

“I had no idea what was I watching in that moment, but the ensuing drama and subsequent trial felt like it went on for many years.”
