The Special Investigations Unit Tasked With Hunting Australia’s Nazi War Criminals

Did you know Australia had a dedicated team hunting down suspected Nazi collaborators?

After the Second World War, Australia was faced with the realisation that hundreds of suspected Nazi War criminals were hiding in our suburbs.

In the 1980s, the government set up the Special Investigations Unit to track down and prosecute these Nazi collaborators.

On the first episode of Secrets We Keep: Uncovered, Joey Watson sat down with the SIU’s deputy director, Graham Blewitt.

Blewitt was handpicked to gather enough credible evidence on these suspects to bring them to justice.

This interview is an important insight into Australia’s complex historical relationship with the far right. Part 2 will be released Tuesday October 21st.

On Secrets We Keep: Uncovered Joey Watson takes you inside some of the most important investigations of our time. Each week, you’ll hear stories powerful people hoped would stay buried, by speaking directly to those who lived and breathed them.
