Madeleine McCann suspect Christian Brueckner breaks silence

He walked free two weeks ago – now the Madeleine McCann suspect is finally speaking out.

Where are we at with the Madeleine McCann case? And what has Brueckner being doing since walking free? Let’s break it down on today’s Shakedown.

Brueckner, a convicted sex offender from Germany, is still the main suspect in Madeleine McCann’s disappearance in Portugal, 2007.

He was released from prison last week after serving seven years for an unrelated rape conviction. As part of his release, he had to surrender his passport and is wearing an ankle tag.

Christian Brueckner has always denied involvement with McCann’s disappearance.

Days after his release, Brueckner travelled four hours to confront the prosecutor who accused him of murdering Madeleine.

In 2020, lead German prosecutor Hans Christian Wolters claimed he had “concrete” evidence that Madeleine was dead and that Brueckner was responsible.

Then in 2022, Brueckner was declared an official suspect by Portuguese prosecutors.

In April this year, the UK approved 100,000 pounds additional funding to keep the investigations going.

So, while Brueckner walks free – the investigation in Portugal’s Algarve region is far from over. He hasn’t been charged, but he’s not in the clear either.
