It’s understood that the crash occurred shortly after a white Commodore with fake plates and four teens inside sped away from a police check in North Lambton.

Police say a pursuit wasn’t initiated due to safety concerns, with officers losing sight of the car when it crossed onto the wrong side of the road. It was there that it slammed into the other vehicle.

A critical incident team is investigating the circumstances of the event as well as the police response.
